7.62x54r is compared to the.30-06. Both are about the same.

Ballistically similar. The Russian is rimmed, the 06 is not. They cannot interchange obviously.

That said, I suppose one might find a Finn MN that could compete with any given 06 bolt gun or a select M1. That cannot be said for run of the mill Russian (or other) MN. (The Russians did field some select MNs in sniper service.)

Don't shoot MNs from prone in dry weather weeds. (Yes, I know this.)

One of the items I grabbed up during the Black Friday sales was a stacked of Rite In The Rain notebooks. My wife argued that I didn't need to worry about writing while standing out in the rain or even worry that much about the rain as we live in Arizona. Of course not, but I still don't want ruined paper and ink running down the page if I do get caught in the rain. I would gladly trade all my electronic gadgets for a lifetime supply of Rite In The Rain notebooks and pens.

Well hopefully I fixed it today. That’s the first time the alternator came out the bottom in one of my vehicles. I only cussed about a dozen times. A new personal best. :D

    Merkun beat me to it!

Bingo! Eastern Bloc 7.62x54R. Could be Czech or Romanian silvertip. 148-149gr bullet. All the advertising I can find from when the stuff was available says "steel core." I'd have to melt the lead out of one, but IIRC these were copper washed steel jacket with a lead core. Just because a magnet sticks to it doesn't make it steel core.

Two 440 round "spam cans" in a crate was going for $145 before it ran out at many suppliers. About double what it was 20 years ago, but better than surplus 7.62x51 that was $135/1000 and is now $200/200.
