Just got this. FANTASTIC 4x4 for the woods here. I've got a set of General Grabbers coming in from the US this week. Now I just need a soft top :D

@wastelander I have one of those, in front of the cabin.... Not a convertible though.... They are very nice in the woods, and easy on the Gas....

'89 K5 Blazer w/ 6.2L diesel. It's been a project for some time, rebuilt motor, tranny, transfer case, swapped rear axle to late model 14 bolt (factory discs), front axle is next when I get some time and funds.

I don't plan to leave, in fact most of my family plan to come to me. If the situation warrants, I think this will be the vehicle. It's no race vehicle, but then it's not meant to be.

I've always wanted one of those for a project I've wanted to try. Actually I just want all the running gear. Good find bud!

Daily driver now is an '05 Dodge Grand Caravan - not the best "BOV", as it's has next to no ground clearance. But it can haul a lot and I have camped in it. I tow an open 5X10 trailer with my '05 KLR-650 dual sport bike as my 'off road' wheels. If the crap really hits the fan, I can slip into the national forest (my property borders on it) and then into the swamp with the bike.
I recently bought an '88 Ford E150 Conversion Van with 302 V8 to begin converting to a serious camper van. Better ground clearance, and easier to work on. Mechanical FI, so I don't know yet if it can be hardened against EMP. Need to research that.

I "believe" that you can install a carb system in place of the FI. I've been told it will bolt up and can use the older ignition system off the older 302's as well. NOT a ford guy, but thats what I've been told. hope it helps.

Likely so, as the change was in that period. I also have my late Father's old 1986 E150 van, with 300cu straight six and a carb. It is a rust bucket I am canabalizing some parts from to fix things on the '88. Later I will look into back-dating the 302 to make it more robust.

Converting a 302 from EFI to carbed may be more trouble than expected if it has an electronically controlled transmission...but the engine would require 1) intake & carb 2) either a low pressure electric fuel pump or the timing cover (there are several different styles, including different water passages for right- or left-hand water pump rotation), mechanical fuel pump and the cam eccentric that bolts onto the front of the cam 3) distributor with the same size/# teeth on the drive gear (if going with an older points or EEC 3 style)...

Bottom line is it can be done, but is it worth it?

You laugh, I have a friend who has one (parked in back...not front) with GTH1.0 stenciled on the side of the rear bumper.

ETA - His is a dually (sp?) and tires cost $185 each.
