What should we teach the children?

How about some of the stuff millennials are depending on other people for.
Any kind of auto service and repair.
    Home appliance repair.
    Plumbing.
    Electrical.

Just being able to replace a light switch or receptacle, they don't need to know how to do a service upgrade.

Foe example around around here the plumbing companies want $10,000 to dig a 1 to 2 foot deep trench 30 feet long and replace $70 worth of PVC shit pipe.
Or $1200 to install a $400 hot water heater.
    It's not rocket surgery.

Having to cough up $10,000 you don't have would fall under person shtf.
But if you know how to dig a hole and glue pvc pipe together it's a minor inconvenience.

Success through trying and failing; understanding that failing isn't failure unless you don't learn from it
    Humility

They can pretty much figure out everything else themselves.

A buddy of mine used to like taking his '57 Chevy to a full serve gas station and ask the gas monkey to fill it. Watching the kid trying to find the gas cap was hilarious! :ROFLMAO:

It is certainly dumbing down Americans, and others around the world. I am so thankful that I grew up in a different generation.

Oh and teach them they do have to go to college to make a decent living.
They all think they need college.
I saw a funny and real face book post of an job advertising.
It was an office job, the applicant needed a bachelors degree, 3 years experience and it started at $10 to $11 an hour.

I have a 2 year degree and stated at $19 an hour, full benefits.
In the big city my job typical starts around $30 an hour. The cost of living is so cheap here and not living in the big shitty it's worth it. I could move to Dallas and make over 30 an hour and still be broke and miserable.

Funny. My degree was in History. It never earned me a single cent, not one.

All the same, a bit of history is rather enlightening, it can explain that the Bill of Rights was not written from a pipe dream. That said, my History of Western Civ classes simply filled a requirement, not a need, for the degree.

I don't even know one adult who can do all of that. This should be a list for the members here to conquer. I know we want our children to be better, brighter and more successful. As you said, stronger as a group and this applies to adults also.

Maybe a liberal arts degree would pay better? [sarc1]

    Zimmy Wait, I'm not ready!

A lot of folks didn't care for auto maintenance being on the list.

Check and add fluids to brakes, engine, tranny, rear end, ect....
    Plug or change a tire
    Check and change belts
Change simple components like idler pulley, alternator, or starter
Clean posts, check grounds, and replace battery
    Replace bulbs
Change oil, air, and fuel filters
    Flush radiator

Maybe even changing brake shoes and various sensors around the vehicle.

I was thinking more Quiklube skill sets instead of Mr Goodwrench.

    I hope that clarifies.

I have removed, rebuilt and reinstalled a motor, using badic handtools, a comealong and stout garage roof frame. Done my own brakes, drums and disks. Stripped, done bodywork and primed/painted. Replaced entire interior. Rewired two cars completely. Modified suspensions. Never got into transmissions though.
I was into musclecars in my youth.
Newer cars with integrated electronics and Cannbus systems are more complex. A good code reader is required! Saves a trip to a shop if the fault is simple.
Last fault cost me $530 at a shop. Not something I could fix.
