In the township next to me there has been a lot of new construction. Communities have their own well for the community but the township has the developer turn the well owner over to the township fully paid for as part of their permit. The residents in general in the township have been complaining about cable, roads and electricity rates. Today one of the residents pulled out their previous rates that get sent every year. looked back at my water bills for the past several years.. Here is how rates have changed: Oct 2021: $100 quarterly fee, $18 volume rate Oct 2022: $103 quarterly fee, $19.5 volume rate Oct 2023: $100 quarterly fee, $25.5 volume rate Oct 2024: $107 quarterly fee, $30.0 volume rate Oct 2025: $115 quarterly fee, $35.0 volume rate New rate Dec 2026: $185 quarterly fee, $70.0 volume rate In 5 years, 85% increase in quarterly fee and 288% (nearly 4x) in the volumetric rate. volume rate is per 1500 gallons of water. Oh and if you are close enough to the sanitary sewer system ya get dinged there too. So if one owns their home .. if you are connected to utilities like electricity, gas, water, sewer, internet .. your government gets a piece and they always will and I have never seen these charges go down.
1st house I owned was like that... city water, city sewer, grid electric... 2nd house (current) the only service I have tied to any grid is electric... planning on battery/charge controller-inverter solar interlock setup next spring
I have my own well, but city sewer. That has gone up from $90 quarterly to $160 from 2000->2026. At this point, I think it's a good deal to not have to worry about septic.
