Hate to admit it but my all time favorite sources of survival information has often been reading good SHTF fiction. Jerry Young, scratchline, T.O.M., Halffast, etc have given me more to think about than any simple list. The LDS church has some good advice for cheap survival and while you may not be comfortable, it will work. In my humble opinion your best bet in survival has always been to do as much as you can to lead the lifestyle before it becomes a life or death test of your preps. Garden, off grid power, wood heat, healthy life style, cooking from basic ingredients, home canning, beans, etc from scratch will all aid in your long term survival. Tendency now for the younger crowd is to buy x weapons, y ammo, z years supply of freeze dried food, and think that they have covered all the bases. In my limited experience it doesn't work out that way. Love to read survival info, or I wouldn't be on this forum, but it should be used as a mental exercise to help you prepare and not as a check list and you are done. Just my opinion, yours may vary.
Like I have called them before, the original preppers. I knew some guys, during my years living in the Philippines, who were LDS members. They were just as serious about prepping there, as they would be back home. No deviation.
Myself, I got a lot of leads out of Jean M. Auel’s “Clan of the Cave Bear” series of Books... It is a Six Book series, based the the Neanderthal / HomoSapian transition Times... She did extensive research into Prehistoric Medicinal Plant use, as well as PreRecoded History & Archeology information of that period. If you can wad thru the Story Line, there are considerable references to modern day uses of much of the Details...
@BTPost I did too That is a great fiction series with alot of fact blended in. It was impressive writing and research
Before the advent of electronic media I got a lot of information from magazines. America Survival Guide was a favorite.
You are so right. The real A.S.G. was very good. I was a closet survivalist from about '79 on. I thank God none of the scenarios presented happened. I read all of Auel's books but after the fourth one I lost interest. A lot of P.A. fiction has useable tidbits. DU above is correct, live the life before it comes down. Which religion is it, Jehovah's witnesses, or Seventh day Adventists he also preach prepping?
