Am thinking of going this way with hydroponics. Anybody have any experience using the Kratky method with out any electrical inputs such as water circulation or aeration?
Locally, it's known as the Alaska Grow Bucket system. Uses bottom watering with Pearlie. Seen as a variation of Dutch buckets, these add a method for air to get to the roots. Self water, zero day to day effort. Another Dutch bucket variation is rain gutter gardening... ANd a Dutch Bucket system (on the cheap)
Thanks for all the good info DKR, this will take me awhile. We have been playing with aquaponics have been researching moving to hydroponics without a lot of electrical usage. Started building the vertical grow system but realized all kinds of other things were required. This idea seems so simple and low maintenance. Are you using this system?
DIY Mason Jar: Non-Circulating Hydroponics (AKA the Kratky method) HydroPonic off grid Gardening I've been experimenting with this... I have a basil plant that is over one year old. The other 3 plants dies of alge problems. I started small See above posts and expanded. I did it with just light from an eastern window, had to add LED's. Watercress is the easiest to grow. I will post more when I have time to upload the pictures. Grinders Hydroponic + Bugout Drinkin' Garden There are a ton of links on this site for hydroponics, Kratky etc just search using whatever term you need with this layout in the command line, it gets you better results than the search function on the site e.g. kratky site:HydroPonic off grid Gardening or hydro Hydroponic Rail System Construction Vid.Hydroponic Rail System Construction Vid. I think these were the original posts on Kratky
Giving this thread a bump as it relates to the greenhouse / UV thread. If forced to go indoors, these 'bucket' or hydroponic systems are the way to go for maximum yield....
